Montana H.B. 83: Proposal to Ban the Sale of Obscene Material

House Bill 83 would outlaw the sale of obscene material.  Media Coalition recognizes the right of the legislature to ban obscene material, but the bill would have a chilling effect on the circulation of many First Amendment-protected works, as creators, producers, and retailers would likely opt out of providing access to many non-obscene materials with sexual content.

Most Recent News: Media Coalition sent a memo in opposition to H.B. 83 to Senator Bruce D. Crippen of the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 30.

The bill failed to pass.
